Just the other day I received a question on Twitter from Adam at Design4Love:
"Hi.. how are you? Do you have any tips for me how to get into the UK design industry (Other than sending applications to agencies). Thanks!"
Which got me thinking about how difficult it was for me and some of the fellow graphic design students I studied with to get a job in the design industry back in
1999 (yes that long ago!) straight out of design college. I snapped up a job with a Central London design agency in Soho within 2 weeks of leaving college but looking back it wasn't really the right job for me then. Though just 13 months later I changed positions and worked for a great design agency based in London Bridge and learned a huge amount as well as working on lots of different types of projects as a designer.
Anyway competition was fierce then BUT the amount of graphic design and other design courses available in art colleges and universities up and down the college has grown hugely since then.
So here are a few tips on (like Adam asked) "how to get into the UK Design industry"

Many people dream of building their own custom designed home but don't for a variety of reasons. The complexities of the construction process can seem overwhelming. Some people assume you have to be rich to build your own home, others just don't know where to begin.
Actually, building a home can be both fun and affordable. This is especially true for modern home buyers since there are a variety of high-quality, modular and prefabricated homes which can literally be had "out of the box". These prefabricated homes (often referred to as prefab homes, modular homes, or manufactured homes) combine the best of high-end architecture with eco-friendly living.
Whoever thought that prefab homes could ever become a hot item, but that is what is happening with new modernist prefab home designs. Even ten or fifteen years ago, owning a claustrophobic plastic box home was not considered the height of elegance.
But that is changing rapidly, just like ‘red can become the new black’ modern prefab homes have become the latest chic, must have, in housing design. Many top residential architects are now trying their hand at designing eco-friendly, prefab homes.
Demand for these new designer, prefab homes is booming across the globe. Everywhere from Australia to Europe, to North America, people are now turning to housing that is built off-site then brought in to the home owner’s lot to be quickly assembled.

As geeks, we love all things that design. When you're bored you can try and kern in space. You have to see what we mean.
