How Plato Was Wrong that too Much Music Fiddles Away Social Progress
Written by Todd Hicks
Plato, one of the greatest philosophers of all time, said too much music fiddles away social progress. Was he correct about this? I do not think that he was. This article demonstrates how music has not fiddled away social progress.Look at the existence of choirs, or groups of people who sing while someone else plays musical instruments. Choirs help to liven up the atmosphere and raise the spirits of every choir member, the conductor, the musicians and every member of the audience. Choirs present people the opportunity to express themselves, make other people happy and develop meaningful relationships with others.
How could we have something so wonderful as concerts without the existence of music? Concerts contribute to a boost in the economy through tickets that are purchased - society does not progress much when the economy does not progress. Choir members and musicians sometimes earn revenue through their concert performances. Additionally, concerts present all of us the chance to have a lot of fun and do something spectacular with our friends and family members.
Where in the world would the great bulk of musicians, singers and rappers be if music did not exist? This avenue presents them the opportunity to earn a vast fortune; besides, many of them might not possess much education or many marketable skills. What about music producers and the people who manage music performers? They might not have such a potentially good job if we did not tolerate music.
Social progress is made as a result of music being around. Music provides an avenue for people to review and critique something. If we did not have any rappers who use a lot of foul language or degrade particular groups of people such as women, we would have less opportunity to teach children to speak decent language and develop respect for everyone.
The existence of music is a gigantic boon to churches. Some of the people who attend churches on a regular basis might do it to hear a choir sing and listen to someone play an organ or piano. Some performers obtain their introduction to learning how to sing or play an instrument while going to church.
We could not experience the huge benefit of music classes without music. Music classes expose some students to a fine art that is a lot of fun while giving them the chance to take a class they can get a high grade in. I always did pretty well in my piano lab courses in high school.
Music is greatly educational and inspirational while presenting us the chance to have lasting memories. There are some songs that teach us something or inspire us to do great things. We can also gain a lifetime memory through an album we receive or a concert we attend.
The information you have learned shows how music has not fiddled away social progress.
